This section describes the concepts used in the analysis of functions and processes. The ideas of function and process are introduced and rules for selecting, naming and describing processes are given.
Function analysis is concerned with describing business activities, the inter-dependencies between them and their contribution to the enterprise in general. The components identified during this analysis are represented in the various ways described in Function decomposition and Process dependency analysis. These components are used in later stages of the IEM as a basis for procedure and system design.
