
Payroll Personnel Data Warehouse
Payroll/Personnel System Data Warehouse Overview
The PPS Data Warehouse contains payroll, personnel and expense data for the University
of California Davis employees. The majority of this data comes from the production
payroll/personnel data bases at Office of the President. Additional data has been
calculated or added from other related local systems for ease of use. The different parts
of the data are updated on different schedules based upon when that information is
available to the campus.
- Employee Records: Includes current information about active faculty and staff
employees, their job appointments, projected funding, and department. Personnel
information such as hire date and bargaining unit (if applicable) is also included.
- Code Translations: Includes the translation for the Home Department Code, Job
Title Code, Personnel Action Code, Bargaining Unit Code, DaFIS Account Number, as well as
many others.
- Payroll Cycle Records: Includes the audit records created during each paycheck
compute cycle throughout the month.
- Expense Records: Includes the payroll and benefit expenses from the paycheck
computes. This data includes any adjustments and is maintained in two slightly different
formats, one more summarized than the other.
- Lien Records: Includes the payroll liens from the committed salary system.
- Staffing List Records: Includes the data from the Staffing Lists produced by the
Planning and Budget Office.
There has been some confusion about the different Payroll/Personnel systems in how they
relate to each other and what actions can be done through the different systems. If you

- PPS Inquiry and Entry/Update Screens: These
screen inquiry and entry/update systems access the Production Payroll system at Office of
the President. These systems use TELNET3270 Secure software to connect to the IBM mainframe.
Changes made through the Entry/Update screens can be viewed immediately. The On-Line Time
Reporting System (OPTRS) is also part of this system.
- PPS Data Warehouse: This
local PPS Data Warehouse is a copy of the payroll data from Office of the President. No
changes can be made to the data. Access to this system requires a usercode, a query tool
(such as Microsoft Access) and knowledge of the data structure.
- PPS Decision Support: The web-based
Decision Support system uses the PPS Data Warehouse data to create its reports, through
menus and report selection criteria similar to DaFIS Decision Support. The same usercode
can be used for either the PPS Data Warehouse or PPS Decision Support.
