Data Warehouse Query Access

Data Warehouse query access is a "do it yourself" way of creating reports from the data warehouse. A data warehouse is defined as a subject-oriented data base designed for access by end users. In order to use the data warehouse, you access the data through a software package known as a SQL-based query tool like BrioQuery, Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel using the Microsoft Query extension. There is also a piece of software called an ODBC driver that also needs to be installed on the PC. This access gives you more freedom of creating reports from the data that your security level grants you access to, but it also requires more knowledge about the data - both its content and its structure.

Currently, there are two campus-wide data warehouses that are maintained by Information Technology: the SIS Data Warehouse containing student information and the Payroll/Personnel Data Warehouse containing employee, payroll, lien, staffing and expense data.
