Rapid Application Development (RAD)

Prototyping

Tools that permit developers to generate code, test it, modify it quickly, and then regenerate it essentially give those developers the capability for prototyping. The difference when CASE tools are used is that this cycle produces, not a throwaway prototype, but a usable part of the finished system. The ability to produce usable prototypes is critical to the success of RAD. To ensure usable prototypes, the enterprise should select an integrated CASE tool that supports the machine performance, reliability, and other features required by the finished system.
