Rapid Application Development (RAD)

Introduction to Automated Tools

Powerful integrated CASE software is now available. CASE software provides planning, analysis, and design "workbenches" that are fully integrated so that one tool directly employs the information from another. A repository stores the knowledge from the multiple tools in an integrated manner. A code generator is fully integrated with the design toolset, allowing the developer to go through the cycle of designing, modifying, generating code and testing as quickly as possible.

Rapid development depends entirely on automated tools. The tools must have certain characteristics in order to be usable and effective in fast development life cycles.
