The Importance of Training in the Use of Tools

Sometimes rapid development efforts fail because of inadequate training. Many IT communities have underestimated the amount of training needed to build an ICASE environment. Powerful CASE toolsets are complex and perform many functions, so developers have much to learn. Management must be committed to providing good training that is specifically oriented to fast development. Good training with tools that are exciting to use can have a profound impact on the attitude of IT professionals.

The training should be well thought-out and should include skillfully designed "learner packs," which provide practice in using the CASE product. Training with the learner packs should be followed immediately by initial projects designed to provide real experience and solidify the skills just learned.
