Rapid Application Development (RAD)

Keeping Developers Excited

A RAD project requires a period of very intensive work, and participants often extend the working day far beyond customary limits.

An effective manager must be able to recognize when extending work hours will reduce the team's productivity, and must be willing to call for a break to rest the team. At the completion of a RAD project, a SWAT Team needs time off before undertaking another intensive development effort. Giving teams time off from intensive work lessens the risk of bum-out and keeps developers excited about their jobs, thus reducing the rate of turnover among team members. Turnover harms development productivity and should be minimized.
