Application Development Methodology

Deliverable D1.22

Characterization of Target Technology Environment.

The forms of technology targeted by the University are characterized in the three classes of technology architecture so. Those three classes of technology are:

HARDWARE ARCHITECTURE -- Identification of the types of hardware and the nature of their use in a particular computing environment. Hardware Architecture Examples:

General Purpose Processors

Mass Data Storage Devices

Intelligent Workstations

Volume Hardcopy Output Devices

COMMUNICATIONS ARCHITECTURE -- Identification of the types of communications facilities and the use to which they will be put in a particular computing environment. Communications Architecture Examples:

Bulk Data Transmission Facilities

Wide Area Networks

Local Area Networks

Intranets

SOFTWARE ARCHITECTURE -- Identification of the types of computing software utilized to plan, develop, operate and maintain the computing environment. Application software is specifically excluded. Examples of software architecture include:

Operating systems

Database management systems

Language compilers

System utilities
